Hey you guys was wondering if overhead lines were bare cable or insulated, both LV and HV.

Can be both covered and bare, generally (in the area i work)
Rural ~ LV bare, HV bare
Urban ~ LV covered, HV bare

Some areas install covered HV overhead. My thoughts are you'd need to very confident that your protection settings were on the money for covered HV as it could remain alive on the ground...

In Western Australia all our open aerials are bare with the exception of ABC both HV and LV you do get the odd switch wire that is insulated as are 99.9% of house services.

where i'm working phases usually covered and neutral bare or covered on lv depending the conductor type and hv is bare
