Hourly Rates of PAY???

Postby bayraider » Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:42 pm

Hi Guy's,
We, Traction Lineys railways are trying for pay parity with the non Goverment Lineys.
At present a Registerd Liney is getting $18.20 per hr.
Senior Liney $20.10 per hr.

We are really interrested in what the outside guys are getting per hr.
Some figures would be really interresting.[/b]

The local Government owned Utility here just put all base level liney's to AU$30.50 per hour with another 4.5% rise in April 09 and another 4.5% in October 09. Crew leaders there by the end of next year will be on $39 something an hour. Most agreements here now all come with 24/7 income protection.

So Squizzy, looking at those rates why are there still any of us left over here in NZ? What is the cost of living etc like compared to over here, are the pay rates and benefits relative? I am a supervisor in NZ, done G&B and sticking, overhead and underground reticulation and paid $29, was about $24 when i was on the tools, how does that compare to OZ

There are to many things that would want to kill and eat me in Australia.
no pay scale could accomidate that.

I could just see the line on the time sheet though
"dealing with locals / Wild life that want to Kill and Eat you Allowance"
"what did your last slave die of?"

Not sure on the glovers rates they are $33 something an hour at the moment but with $30 a day extra if you glove.
No need to worry about the wildlife eating you here they usually only bite bad news is that they are either poisonous or a Great White shark  .
There is plenty of work here, had a few guys from NZ come over and they say the costs are up and down on different things but once its all added up it averages out about the same. I know of one contractor paying his glovers $45 an hour and liney's $40 an hour but its all relative to job security the Local Utility is Western Power and Government owned so its about as secure as it gets and as they give out all the work and contracts I work for a contractor on $36 an hour, it pays the bill$....

I don't know what sites they advertise on we just call some one up or ask the guys we see around plus they haven't paid G to advertise I better not whack up a free add for them till I know what the rules are about that. Plus the way its going the radio was saying that 1000 Kiwi's a week are coming over to Oz and 4% of Western Australia's population is from NZ surprised there is many of you fella's left over there lol....
